Promoting Cyber Wellness Among Us

In today’s world, it is a fact that we cannot avoid communicating and interacting in the virtual world, or the cyber space. In fact, technology today has enabled us to interact while being on the move, through the use of mobile gadgets, without being hooked up to a personal computer.

However, in our excitement to leverage on technology, we should not be obsessed with social media platforms to the point that it may adversely affect our interaction and communication with family members.

And it is also important for us to understand the ethics and guidelines of surfing the Internet and making use of the cyber space.

In our excitement to leverage on technology, we should not be obsessed with social media platforms to the point that it may adversely affect our interaction and communication with family members. We should not be so attached to our mobile gadgets that we are inseparable from our mobile devices when we are eating, drinking, taking a shower and even sleeping – simply because we feel the need to surf the internet or play games or interact with our cyber friends.

Khutbah Title: Following the Example of Rasulullah in Educating His Family. [12 September 2014]
  • It is important for both the husband and wife to instil love and compassion, as well as a sense of tranquillity and affection, based on their believe (iman) towards Allah s.w.t.
  • For compassion to exist between the husband and wife, we need to find a balance between love and carrying out our responsibilities.
  • Among the objectives of building families is to achieve tranquillity and intimacy, based on trust and mutual respect. The sense of trust towards our partner has to be instilled through honesty and sincerity, whereas respect is developed through communication and good relations between the couple.

Khutbah Title: Children Are Our Shared Responsibility. [05 September 2014]

Besides giving sufficient allowance (nafkah), a father has to educate his children, protect them and ensure their safety, and to love and care for them wholeheartedly. Indeed, there are many responsibilities entrusted upon a father. It is an amanah or duty that has to be fulfilled with dedication, sincerity and takwa to Allah s.w.t.

Khutbah Title: Instilling A Responsible Attitude In Spending. (PDF) [29 August 2014]
Khutbah Title: Instilling A Responsible Attitude In Spending. [29 August 2014]

The wealth owned by anyone is actually owned by Allah s.w.t. It is a blessing given from Allah s.w.t. to His servants as a wasilah or a medium for one to fulfill one’s duties as a khalifah or vicegerent of Allah in this world, and thus, accumulating wealth should not be one’s life’s objective. At the same time, the wealth bestowed upon us is also a test, whether a person will spend the wealth in ways that will gain Allah’s pleasures.
