THE RAMADAN YOUTH CHALLENGE 2004
1. AN INTRODUCTION
The Ramadan Youth Challenge (RYC) is
a community-wide effort to motivate
Muslim youths to take ownership of their
self-development, taking advantage of
the blessed month of Ramadan to do so.
The youths would demonstrate their commitment
by making pledges of their desired outcomes
before the fasting month.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE RYC
a) To help the youths realise the true
meaning of Ramadan and the Eid celebrations.
b) To challenge the youths to make
the change for the better, using Ramadan
as a timely platform.
c) To bring forth the positive characteristics
of the youths, i.e. one who takes ownership
of his self-development and strives
to do good and discard evil deeds.
d) To provide an opportunity for Mosque
Religious Officers, Youth Wing leaders
and mosque activists to work together
on a large-scale project; in doing so,
it further promotes and enhances networking
and bonding.
3. TARGET AUDIENCE
Youths aged between 13 and 25 years
old.
4. KEY ACTIVITIES
a) Tilawah Day
Over 2 weekends, RYC participants would
gather at either of the following mosques
to Tilawah (recite the Quran) together.
Asatizah and facilitators will be present
for guidance. The participants will
then break fast together.
Schedules of the Tilawah Day are as
follows:
• Sat, 16 Oct 2004, 5.00pm, the
Al Istiqamah Mosque,
2 Serangoon North Ave 2.
• Sat, 23 Oct 2004, 5.00pm, the
Assyaakirin Mosque,
550 Yung Ann Road.
b) Mass Iftar (breaking
of fast), Sat, 6 Nov 2004, the Al Falah
Mosque, Bideford Road. *Programmes catering
to the youths are being designed.
c) Community Service
Participants will perform community
service at either of the following schedules:

Together with Muis officials, the
participants will either:
• Distribute Fidyah and/or Hari
Raya packs to recipients of Muis’
financial assistance grants and/or
• Help clean between 5 and 10
homes of recipients of our financial
assistance schemes.
d) Successful Completion of
RYC
The RYC participants are considered
to have successfully completed the challenge
when they participate in:
• Tilawah Day on either 16 Oct
2004 or 23 Oct 2004 at the Al Istiqamah
or Assyaakirin mosques.
• Mass Iftar on 6 Nov 2004 at
the Al Falah Mosque.
• Community Service on either
31 Oct 2004 or 7 Nov 2004 at the 4 mosques
mentioned above.
