From the President
'Growth' I like
the word – and I think it best describes MUIS in the past year. Growth
renews us. It energises us. It gives us good enough reasons to celebrate
and makes for good motivational and inspirational tools as well.
The reason for our continued success is obvious:
we are focused on being an important and influential voice in an exemplary
Muslim community in Singapore. Looking back, 1999 was definitely much
better than 1998. The economy was back on its feet; slow but definitely
sure-footed. We bounced back with a fervour and determination that
was decidedly Singaporean – always turning adversity into opportunities.
In the course of it all, MUIS, too, has grown in stature and strength.
We have achieved certain milestones, geared up for challenges ahead
and were even winning awards in areas of productivity.
All these achievements gladden my heart. But
as always, the bar needs to be raised. We must learn to anticipate
tomorrow’s challenges even as we resolve today’s pressing problems.
We must be agile enough to take on new opportunities instead of closing
off avenues of possibility.
Looking to the future, there’s a great sense
of purpose and excitement here at MUIS. As change becomes constant,
leaders must have the flexibility and vision to handle it. In this
respect, MUIS promises to continually provide balance in a rocking
sea. And if we do it well, our satisfaction will be ample, our joy
complete.
Till next year.
