A mere 50-metre away from the spanking new Masjid Kassim stands Telok Indah, a 40-unit private apartment. Any uninformed passer-by to the low-rise residential development would not have guessed that there is more to Telok Indah than just a residential property. The building is testimony to Muis' successful efforts at wakaf development.

Besides the condominium at Telok Kurau for Wakaf Kassim, Muis has also spearheaded the development of four units of semi- detached house at Duku Road for Wakaf Jabbar and another nine units of walk-up apartment at Telok Kurau for Baitulmal.

All these have demonstrated Muis' significant role in the area of wakaf development, besides its other roles in the religious and social spheres. Today, with the experience amassed, it is bullish about initiating yet another round of residential development for its existing bank of Wakaf

 

land. Asset development is an important area within Muis, says Mr Saharudin Kassim, Special Assistant to the President of Muis.

"Our past experience in the development of wakaf properties has given us valuable lessons," he says.

"In the process, we've been able to build our resources, create synergies,expertise and understand the industry. The successful developments of Wakaf Kassim, Wakaf Jabbar and Wakaf Jamae, among others, have given us new confidence that we can take wakaf developments to new heights."

Mr Saharudin, who is also Chairman of Muis Wakaf Committee and Director, Planning and Operations confirms that, "Redeveloped and upgraded wakafs are now generating higher yields.
