A checklist for what you need to do after Hajj

Restore your body by drinking extra fluids.

Eat a variety of foods.

Continue to protect yourself from the sun.

Do not use a razor used by someone else.

Attend to your personal hygiene.

• Use this time after the Hajj to restore your body. Continue to drink fluids, especially water and juices for three to four days after the Hajj. If you travel by plane, you may need to remember to drink even more.

• Juices, milk, and sweet tea or coffee are good to drink now. They give you both fluids and energy that your body needs to recover.

• Plan to eat a variety of foods.

• Continue to protect yourself from the sun.

• Don’t use a razor that was used by someone else. Use your own razor to shave your face or head after you break ihram. When someone shaves with a razor, there is always the possibility of the skin breaking and bleeding. Blood can carry many diseases, and people who come in contact with blood that is tainted with a disease may become infected. There are serious diseases that are transmitted by contact with blood namely hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS.

• After you break your ihram, take a shower and attend to your personal hygiene. Wear clean clothes.


When you want to break Ihram:

• Use your own scissors to cut your hair, not scissors used by others.

• If you shave your face or head, use your own razor; not a razor used by someone else.
- Shaving can cut the skin, resulting in blood on the razor. Traces can too small to see.
- Sharing razors can transmit diseases such as hepatitis or HIV/AIDS.

• When you want to break Ihram:

• Use your own scissors to cut your hair.

• Do not use scissors used by other people.

• If you shave your face or the hair on your head, use your own razor. Do not share razors.

• Do not use a razor that was used by someone else.

• When people shave, they often cut their skin and blood gets on the razor. Sometimes, the traces of blood are so small that you cannot see it.

• Sharing razor blades can transmit diseases such as hepatitis or HIV/AIDS between people.

Bathe and wear clean clothes.

Make sure travel plans are in order.

If you plan a shopping trip make sure you are with a local guide and your wallet is protected.

Allow plenty of time to pack clothes and souvenirs before trip.

Eat a light meal no later than 2 hours before you go to bed.

Retire early to get a good night’s sleep.

• Shower or bathe and wear clean clothes.

• Make sure that your travel plans for your return trip home are in order.

• If you plan any shopping trips make sure that you are in the company of a local guide and that your wallet is protected.

• Give yourself plenty of time to pack your clothes and souvenirs before your trip.

• Eat a light meal no later than two hours before you plan to go to bed.

• Retire early in order to get a good night’s sleep and rest.
