Why Fulfil Your Zakat With Muis?
Responsibility of ZakatThe distribution of Zakat is not the individual’s responsibility, but refers to the responsibility of the Authority tasked with the matters of Islam from the Islamic community. This was the practice shown by Rasulullah (saw) and the khalifah who appointed Zakat officers during their own era. In Singapore, Muis is the organisation responsible for the welfare of the Islamic community including the Zakat system.
Laws and StatutesUnder the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA),in Section 68 (1), Muis has the power to collect Zakat and Fitrah payable in Singapore in accordance with the Muslim Law. In addition, Section 69 (1) states that Muis, with the approval of the Minister, may make rules for and regulate all matters in connection with the collection, administration and distribution of Zakat and Fitrah.
TransparencyTransparency is an important component in the administration of Zakat by Muis. Zakat collection and disbursement reports are audited by qualified auditors and are made known annually to the Parliament of Singapore. This report is available for the public and can be found in Muis Annual Reports
Assured and Objective DisbursementZakat should be disbursed to the 8 asnaf which are the groups of people entitled to receive Zakat. This is in accordance with the Syari’ah law in Surah At-Taubah verse 60. InsyaAllah, Muis is capable of disbursing your Zakat to all eight asnaf so that those who receive your Zakat contribution are the rightful recipients.
Empowering Disbursement SystemMuis provides additional assistance on top of the many social schemes readily available at the National level. Poor and needy families who are eligible for Zakat asistance will receive monthly cash grants. In addition, they can also receive study grants and fidyah vouchers.

Easy Payment MethodsThere are many ways for you to fulfil your Zakat contribution through Muis. Besides going to Muis, you can also make payment at the many mosques in Singapore, through the AXS stations which are located islandwide, 24 hours through the internet via eNets Debit, via cheque or monthly installments through Giro.
Professional and ResponsibleThe administration of Zakat collection and public education from Muis was awarded the international recognition of IS0 9001:2000 on the 13th of May 2008. In addition, Muis has been awarded the Singapore Quality Class, People Developer Singapore and Singapore Service Class.
Reduction of Income Tax with ZakatSince 2005, Muis has introduced the IRAS auto-inclusion scheme for Zakat payers who wish to declare their Zakat contribution. Under section 14(1)(g) of the Income Tax Act,Zakat contribution is an allowable expense which is deductible against the contributor’s income.
The Zakat and Fitrah Committee, headed by President Muis, Mufti and other community leaders discuss on Zakat collection and disbursement. The Fatwa Committee, chaired by the Mufti, gives guidance on all syari’ah matters including Zakat.
