ANNOUNCEMENT BY MUFTI OF SINGAPORE ON THE BEGINNING OF SYAWAL FOR MUSLIMS IN SINGAPORE

According to astronomical calculations, the crescent for the month of Syawal remained above the horizon of Singapore for 36 minutes after sunset today. The age of the moon was calculated to be 16 hours at the time of its setting. Based on the criteria of imkanur rukyah which is agreed upon by nations of MABIMS (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore), the crescent has fulfilled the conditions of rukyah (sighting of the crescent).

As such, I am pleased to announce that the month of Syawal for the year 1439 Hijrah is tomorrow, Friday, 15th Jun 2018.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Muslims in Singapore: “Selamat Hari Raya Eidul Fitri”. May Allah accept all our deeds throughout Ramadan and may we meet Ramadan again next year.

Thank you. Wassalamualaikum Wr Wb.
