Muis Honours Exemplary Individuals at Muis50 Awards

1. The Muis50 Awards and President’s Challenge Cheque Presentation Ceremony 2018 was held at the Fairmont Singapore and Swissotel The Stamford this evening. 450 guests including leaders from the Muslim community were present to honour 20 committed individuals – the highest in the award’s history – who have been making impactful contributions to the socio-religious life of the community.

2. Ustazah Sukarti Asmoin received the Jasa Cemerlang (Outstanding) Award while seven community leaders received the Jasa Bakti (Service) Award. Seven individuals received the commemorative Muis50 Distinguished Award and five outstanding youths received the first-ever Muis50 Inspiring Youth Award. All awards were presented by Guest-of-Honour, President of the Republic of Singapore, Mdm Halimah Yacob.

3. Ustazah Sukarti currently serves as the Vice President of the Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association (PERGAS) Council and Dean of the Islamic Studies Department at Madrasah Al-Maarif Al-Islamiah. Ustazah Sukarti’s lifelong achievements and countless contributions to the community include serving as a senior member in PERGAS and Asatizah Recognition Board stringing together the implementation of strategic plans to uplift the Muslim community. Speaking to reporters, she said:

“My passion has always been education and I would like to contribute for as long as I can. Receiving an award never crossed my mind, my only hope is to continue to share knowledge with the community. I would like others to also share what they have learnt to cultivate a culture of learning.”

4. The inaugural Muis50 Inspiring Youth Award honours five young and inspiring Muslim individuals who have made sterling contributions to the community. Mr Mohksin Abdullah, co-founder and CEO of Majulah Community which spearheads ground-up community service projects both locally and abroad is a recipient of the inaugural youth award. Mr Mohksin trains and empowers youth to lead projects through training programmes.

5. All Muis50 Distinguished Award recipients have pledged to pay forward the monetary award of $3,000 each to five charitable organisations. Muis has matched and topped up these pledges, to bring the total amount to $50,000 equally disbursed to five charitable organisations - Ain Society’s Serenity Centre, Casa Raudhah Women’s Shelter, Club HEAL, Rainbow Centre and Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN). 

6. A cheque worth $100,000 raised by the community for the President’s Challenge was also presented this evening to President, Mdm Halimah Yacob.
