Muis Zakat Financial Assistance (FA) is meant for the poor and needy (fakir and miskin asnaf) and aims to help the bottom 5% of income earners in Singapore. The Zakat FA is complementary to the National Assistance Schemes and for a more comprehensive support, applicants are also encouraged to explore assistance such as the ComCare schemes that are administered by the Social Service Offices (SSOs).
Since Zakat is funded by the public, Muis would need to carry out the due diligence to verify the information by the applicant and this is done through the assessment interview with the mosque’s Social Development Officers (SDO). The SDOs would first need to determine your income to ensure that you qualify for Zakat assistance.
As much as Zakat assistance aims to help as many people as possible, the Zakat funds are limited and there are some applications which are rejected.
