Registration for Modified Korban 2020 Opens

3 July 2020

Muslims can register with mosques to perform annual Korban in Australia

1. A total of 42 mosques in Singapore will offer their services to facilitate Korban 2020 for Muslims who wish to perform the annual ritual during Hari Raya Aidiladha. For this year’s modified Korban ritual there will be no livestock imported to Singapore. Instead, mosques are facilitating arrangements for the ritual to be performed in Australia, with the meat to be chilled and subsequently shipped to Singapore.

Registration for Korban

2. Registration for Korban 2020 opens on Friday, 3 July 2020 and will close on Friday, 24 July 2020, subject to availability on a first-come first-served basis. As per the practice in past years, individuals who wish to perform Korban can register directly with any one of the listed mosques [see Annex A]. Each mosque will offer up to 100 sheep.

3. Online registrations and transactions are highly encouraged. The public can look out for more details on individual mosque platforms or contact individual mosque directly for registration details.

4. Those who successfully registered will receive their chilled and pre-packed meat after the tashrik days.

Pricing

5. Mosques are partnering individual vendors licensed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to import meat products.

6. This year, each sheep will be priced in the range of $300 - $330. Payments are to be made directly to the individual mosque.

Distribution and Safety Measures

7. All participating mosques will adopt standard operating procedures, observe high hygiene standards, stagger distribution and collection slots and adhere to prevailing safety measures aligned to national guidelines.

8. A portion of the meat will also be distributed to Muis’ Zakat beneficiaries and mosques may facilitate contactless deliveries to minimise contact and interactions.

9. Mosques and appointed vendors, which are participating in this year’s modified Korban, must comply with the food safety requirements of SFA for the importation, storage and distribution of meat products.
