Significance of Haj

Haj is the fifth pillar of Islam and a sacred obligation for all able Muslims who have the means to perform it at least once in their lifetime, provided the journey is safe. It represents a deeply significant spiritual milestone and a profound act of devotion to Allah s.w.t.

Singapore’s Haj quota

Singapore’s official Haj quota stands at 900 places, calculated at 0.1% of our Muslim population, based on the allocation formula, established by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) in 1987. The final number of places is subject to the annual quota granted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The number of places is therefore limited and varies depending on the final allotment from the Saudi authorities.

Allocation process

MUIS allocates Haj places on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure that as many Singaporean Muslims as possible have the opportunity to fulfil their religious obligation.

We recognise the profound significance of the Haj pilgrimage, and the importance of this opportunity to our community.

Due to the fixed quota limitations granted by the Saudi authorities, we are unable to consider appeals or provide additional places once the allocation process has been completed.

MUIS remains committed to ensuring a fair and transparent allocation process for all applicants. We encourage all intending pilgrims to register early.
