ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION - PRIOR TO APPLYING

Child has special educational needs
If you feel that your child has special education needs, you are recommended to apply to mainstream or special education (SPED) school. There are also private centres such as My Inspiring Journey (MIJ) Special Education Hub which allow your child to continue to carry out their religious rituals such as prayers.

Child is not assessed to be not ready or unsuitable for P1 (deferment cases)
If you feel that your child may not be ready for formal schooling due to their medical conditions, special educational needs, delayed or slower progression or other circumstances, you can apply to defer their commencement of P1 by 1 year. Your application must be supported by a qualified health professional.
You will need to apply for a deferment between January and September 1 year before your child is due to start P1.
If your child is due to start P1 in 2022, you will have to apply for a deferment between January and September 2021 with MOE. Click here for more information.

Child is an International Student
Student will need to provide a local address during application.
Your child will need to apply for Student’s Pass with ICA once your child has been offered a place in the madrasah. Your child’s enrolment is contingent on the approval of your child’s Student’s Pass by ICA. Your child will need to renew his/her Student’s Pass before it expires.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION - FUTURE ENTRY INTO SECONDARY 1

For national school students they will receive a personalized S1 Option Form and Eligibility Letter along with their PSLE results. The S1 Option Form contains the student’s S1 PIN for the submission process. The eligibility letter may contain information such as if the student is eligible for Edusave Scholarships for Independent Schools. As for madrasah students, they will not be able to apply for entry into S1 at national schools in the same manner. They may consider the following options:

Before PSLE Results: via DSA-Sec

  • Direct School Admission for secondary schools (DSA-Sec) allows students to apply to some schools before taking the PSLE.
  • Students apply based on their talent in sports, CCAs and specific academic areas.
  • If your child is admitted to a secondary school through DSA-Sec, they are not allowed to transfer to another national school. They must commit to their chosen school for the duration of the programme.
  • Primary 6 students can apply for DSA-Sec based on a wide-range of talents, including:
    • Sports and games
    • Visual, literary and performing arts
