Differences reflect the diversity of scholarly opinions within our religion. Even the companions of the Prophet s.a.w. themselves differed in certain matters. Yet, they did not allow those differences to hinder unity, harmony, or love among them.

Allah s.w.t. describes Muslims as ummatan wasata – a community that is balanced and just (Al-Baqarah:143). 

The principle of wasatiyyah serves as a guide so that differences of opinion do not lead to division. The Companions of the Prophet s.a.w. and scholars of the past differed on many matters, yet they preserved unity by upholding wisdom and the ethics of disagreement.
