Consistent performance for madrasahs in their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results

1. 325 students out of 327 Singaporean Primary 6 madrasah students (99.4%) have passed their examinations Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) this year. Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) congratulates all students from these madrasahs¹.

2. All four madrasahs offering primary education will retain their “designated school” status² under the Compulsory Education (CE) Act for 2023 and will be able to admit children exempted from CE at Primary 1.

3. In the past 5 years, the mean percentage of Primary 6 madrasah students who passed PSLE has been around 98.6%. Throughout the past decade, students from all four madrasahs have been consistent in their PSLE performance.

Continuous support towards the full-time madrasahs

4. In 2021, Madrasahs benefited close to $1.5million which has been utilised by the madrasahs to conduct academic programmes and activities for their students and to support the professional development of teachers and asatizah.

5. Additionally, MUIS’ has conducted several projects to enhance the madrasah sector, such as the Centres of Excellence and Collaboration (COEC). Started in 2021, COEC enable madrasahs to focus on a particular area where they could build deeper expertise and offer relevant developmental programmes to the rest of the madrasahs.

6. Commenting on the performance of our madrasah students, MUIS Chief Executive, Kadir Maideen said:

MUIS acknowledges the achievements of the primary six students from our madrasahs this year. Madrasahs today continue to play the important role of developing religious scholars, leaders, and educators for our community, as well as preserving our community’s Islamic legacy and heritage through the impartment of knowledge and tradition and the inculcation of our moral values.

Our Muslim community’s generous contributions have been essential to our madrasahs’ sustainability. Madrasahs have also benefitted from additional government assistance in improving the secular aspects of madrasah education through secondment of expert teachers, teachers’ professional development, and awards for secular subjects in the past six years.

MUIS would like to express our appreciation for all the support provided to our madrasahs and we urge the Muslim community to continue supporting the madrasah sector through various ways, for example through the OurMadrasah.SG platform, which is administered by MUIS.

5. Beyond academic pursuits, madrasah students have also excelled in their respective areas of interests, through co-curricular activities and external events.
