Minister Masagos Zulkifli to visit the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

1. Minister for Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli will be visiting the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for an official visit from 8 – 15 January 2025.

2. The visit aims to strengthen Singapore’s bilateral engagements with Egypt and Saudi Arabia for future collaborations.

3. In Egypt, Mr Masagos will be engaging key personalities to strengthen Singapore’s bilateral ties with Cairo. In addition to engaging Singaporean students based in Cairo, Mr Masagos will be meeting

a) the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Dr Nazir Mohamed Ayyad;

b) the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed Al-Tayyeb;

c) the former Grand Muftis of Egypt, Dr Shawki Allam and Dr Ali Gomaa;

d) the Minister of Religious Endowments, Dr Osama Al-Azhary; and

e) the Minister of Social Solidarity, Dr Maya Mohamed Abdel-Moneim Morsy.

4. In Saudi Arabia, Minister will attend the annual Hajj and Umrah Exhibition and Conference organised by Saudi’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Minister will meet Saudi’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, His Excellency, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Alrabiah to discuss matters related to the upcoming Haj season. Both Ministers are expected to sign the Haj Agreement which will indicate the Haj quota allocation to Singapore for 2025.

5. Minister is also scheduled to meet Mayor of Makkah, Musad Abdulaziz Aldaood, and the Governor of Taif, Prince Saud Bin Nahar Bin Saud Bin Abdulaziz as well as engaging Singaporean students who are pursuing tertiary education in Saudi Arabia.

6. Minister will be accompanied by Chief Executive of MUIS, Mr Kadir Maideen, Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir and other senior officials.
