Over 2,000 congregants gathered at Darul Makmur Mosque on Saturday, 14 Mar 2026 to commemorate Laylatul Qadr, the most blessed night of Ramadan. Acting Minister-in Charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim joined congregants and more than 500 Ramadan Youth Challenge participants at the event.
Dialogue with youth leaders across four districts
During the Night of Power event, Acting Minister Faishal had a dialogue with about 10 youth leaders to better understand the challenges they may face in engaging more youths and encouraging greater participation in mosque activities.
The conversation also explored avenues of support and resources that youth leaders need to further strengthen their outreach efforts as well as to help youths feel more connected to mosques.
“It is heartening to see many young Muslims stepping up as leaders in the community in the last few nights of Ramadan. During our dialogue, I heard firsthand how these youth are working together with the mosques on meaningful initiatives. I am proud of our youths for taking initiative and exemplifying leadership in their efforts. Their commitment to serve while strengthening their own faith demonstrates the positive impact young people can have given the right platforms and support, I hope their spirit will inspire other youths to lead with sincerity, trust and gratitude,” said Acting Minister Faishal.
The Ramadan Youth Challenge, a flagship initiative under SalamSG, ran concurrently from 14 to 15 March 2026 across four mosque districts – Masjid Sultan (South), Masjid Al-Mukminin (West), Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim (North) and Masjid Al-Mawaddah (East). Led by Youth Development Officers and Mosque Youth leaders, the programme aims to strengthen youths’ connection to mosques while building their confidence as community leaders.
This year’s programme emphasises three key values – Gratitude, Graciousness and Giving - through activities and guided reflections designed to deepen participants’ sense of belonging and community contribution.
“Youths have tremendous potential to bring about positive change through volunteerism. By stepping forward to serve at the mosque, they not only contribute meaningfully to the community, but also develop character, leadership and a strong sense of responsibility. As a volunteer and youth mosque leader, I believe initiatives such as the Ramadan Youth Challenge, are important and should continue, as they create opportunities for young people to grow, give back, and make a positive impact in the community.” Yaich Omar, 23, Youth Leader of Darul Ghufran Mosque shared.
Mufti’s call for spiritual renewal
Laylatul Qadr, regarded as the most blessed night in the month of Ramadan, holds immense spiritual significance for Muslims. On this night, which the Quran describes as “better than a thousand months,” Muslims are encouraged to deepen their devotion through prayer, reflection and acts of kindness. The occasion serves as a reminder for the Muslim community to strengthen their faith and embody values such as compassion, humility and integrity in their daily lives.
Addressing the congregants, Singapore’s Mufti, Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir, invited the Muslim community to reflect on the profound virtues of Laylatul Qadr and to seek its blessings with sincerity and devotion. The session also highlighted the importance of enlivening the final nights of Ramadan as a time for spiritual renewal and personal transformation. As the blessed month draws to a close, Dr Nazirudin emphasised the importance of carrying forward the lessons of patience, gratitude and spiritual growth beyond Ramadan. The convergence of religious observance and youth engagement highlights the community's focus on nurturing the next generation of Muslim leaders in Singapore.
