Al-Firdaus Mosque to be phased out for redevelopment; name to be preserved in new mosque in Tengah
28 November 2025
63-year-old mosque will continue operations until the completion of Tengah Mosque designed to serve Tengah, Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang residents.
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, announced the phasing out of Al-Firdaus Mosque during Friday prayers on 28 November 2025 to make way for development plans in Choa Chu Kang.
Phasing out of Al-Firdaus Mosque
Al-Firdaus Mosque has served the Muslim community in Choa Chu Kang for 63 years. Located on a large land parcel intended for longer term re-development, the mosque continues to operate until greater certainty of the development plans. The mosque has been a key place of worship for Muslim residents and workers in the area.
Operations of Al-Firdaus Mosque will continue until the new mosque in Tengah is completed, to ensure residents will continue to be served. The new mosque will be developed with expanded capacity and resources to serve congregants across Tengah, Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang. Design development will start in 2027, and construction is expected to be completed in the early 2030s.
Preserving Al-Firdaus’ 63-year long history
To honour and preserve Al-Firdaus Mosque’s 63-year legacy, the new mosque in Tengah will adopt the name “Al-Firdaus”. This decision was made in consultation with the Al-Firdaus Mosque Management Board (MMB), to enable future generation to appreciate and remember the mosque’s significance in the community.
Development management of Tengah Mosque
The development of the new mosque in Tengah will be led by a committee comprising local stakeholders including representatives from Al-Khair, Al-Firdaus, and Ar-Raudhah MMBs to oversee the mosque development. This collaborative model is similar to the approach for the mosque in Tampines North, tapping on the collective wisdom and expertise of MMBs to ensure that the various needs of the community in the area are considered in the planning and designing of the new mosque.
