Ar-Raudhah Mosque begins major upgrading, to serve up to 4,000 congregants by end 2028
9 October 2026
The mosque’s first major upgrading since 1993 will improve accessibility, facilities and prayer spaces.
Ar-Raudhah Mosque commenced upgrading works under Phase 3 of the Mosque Upgrading Programme (MUP) in July 2026. The works will be carried out in two phases over about two years, with completion targeted by end 2028. The upgrading will provide congregants with more accessible facilities, enhanced spaces for learning and community activities, and additional prayer spaces. This marks the mosque’s first major upgrading since it was completed in 1993.
Ar-Raudhah Mosque was completed on 24 January 1993 under Phase 2 of the Mosque Building Programme and was the 15th mosque completed under the programme. The mosque was developed with support from the Mosque Building and MENDAKI Fund (MBMF) and currently accommodates up to 3,500 congregants. For more than three decades, it has served generations of congregants and families in the community.
The upgrading will improve the mosque’s accessibility, facilities and capacity. Key improvements include enhanced barrier-free access, upgraded classrooms, administrative offices and toilets, a new covered area over the existing open-to-sky courtyard, as well as upgraded audio-visual and security systems. Additional prayer spaces will increase the mosque’s capacity from 3,500 to 4,000 congregants. These improvements will enable the mosque to better support worship, learning and community activities as the needs of its congregants evolve.
“Our mosques must continue to grow with the needs of our community. Ar Raudhah has served generations of families for more than 30 years. This upgrading will help ensure that the mosque remains accessible and welcoming, with better spaces for worship, learning and community life for many years to come,” said Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs.
Ar-Raudhah Mosque will remain partially operational throughout the upgrading period. Daily prayers and two sessions of Friday prayers will continue to be held at the mosque. Prayer spaces for Muslimah will not be available during Friday prayers while upgrading works are ongoing. Congregants are encouraged to follow the mosque’s prayer arrangements and directions to ensure the safe and smooth movement of worshippers.
As part of the upgrading, Ar-Raudhah Mosque aims to achieve the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Super Low Energy (SLE) certification, supporting efforts to improve the mosque’s energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The upgrading project has a total construction cost of $9.4 million. The mosque is raising funds to support the project through various community initiatives, including religious talks, charity drives and donation boxes at mosques islandwide. The mosque requires $2.3 million remaining to be raised for the project.
