Introduction of MUIS Scholarship expands opportunities for local full-time madrasah students
9 July 2025
MUIS introduces new undergraduate scholarship alongside the Syed Isa Semait Scholarship (SISS) to develop future religious leaders across various sectors.
1. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) broadens its support for religious education with the introduction of a new undergraduate scholarship. Complementing the established Syed Isa Semait Scholarship (SISS), the MUIS Scholarship (MS) widens opportunities for madrasah graduates to develop as future religious leaders across various sectors.
MUIS Scholarship (MS)
2. MS creates a dedicated pathway for madrasah graduates to assume leadership positions in our community institutions such as the mosques and madrasahs, while the SISS develops leaders for our key Islamic institutions such as MUIS, the Syariah Court and Registry of Muslim Marriages (ROMM). This new scholarship therefore complements the SISS in developing leaders across different sectors to serve the community.
3. This new scholarship supports undergraduate studies with funding of up to $120,000, requiring a three-year bond commitment from recipients. MUIS is awarding the MS to its inaugural batch of four recipients: Saqina Qamilia Suwandi, Solihin Zainal, Nur Asyifa Muhamed Amin, and Muhammad Ammar Zaid. They were chosen based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to serve the community.

4. The Syed Isa Semait Scholarship (SISS), a prestigious scholarship expanded in 2022, supports exceptional madrasah graduates in pursuing their undergraduate studies. The students have shown exceptional dedication to their academic excellence in both secular and religious knowledge, leadership capabilities, and a genuine passion to serve the community. The scholarship seeks to retain top madrasah students within the religious sector and develop a pipeline of future religious leaders for key Islamic institutions.
5. SISS provides higher funding of up to $240,000, with a corresponding longer bond period of six years. Since 2022, MUIS has awarded the SISS to a total of six recipients over the past three years.
6. This year, MUIS is awarding the SISS to two recipients: Ahmad Musaddiq Samadi and Nusaybah Muhammad Iqbaal. Sharifah Basri, the sole SISS recipient for 2024, will receive her award alongside this year's batch at the award ceremony.
7. Through both these scholarships, MUIS invests in promising madrasah graduates who have the potential to shape the future of our religious leadership. This reflects MUIS’s commitment to strengthen our institutions and develop asatizah who are deeply rooted in our Islamic tradition while being well-equipped to guide our community in contemporary Singapore.
