MUIS advisory on Umrah travel to Saudi Arabia
14 October 2026
In line with MFA's updated travel advisory, MUIS advises Singaporeans planning to perform Umrah to consider postponing their travel to Saudi Arabia while security risks remain heightened. MUIS is engaging Umrah travel agents to encourage assistance with postponement or rescheduling arrangements. Singaporeans currently in Saudi Arabia should follow official advisories and stay in contact with their travel operators and airlines.
Following the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' (MFA) updated travel advisory (opens in new tab) issued on 13 October 2026, which advises Singaporeans to defer all travel to Saudi Arabia due to heightened security risks, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) advises Singaporeans planning to perform Umrah to take heed of MFA's advisory and consider deferring their travel for the time being.
We understand how much an Umrah journey means to our pilgrims and their families. For many, it is a deeply personal journey of faith, one they have looked forward to, saved for and prepared for some time. We seek the community's understanding in taking the necessary safety precautions and consider postponing their journey while the security risk remains heightened.
Advice for Singaporeans with existing Umrah bookings
MUIS understands that these developments may cause uncertainty and concern, particularly for pilgrims who have already committed to perform Umrah. MUIS is engaging Umrah travel agents to encourage them to assist affected pilgrims with clear information and, where possible, flexible arrangements for postponement or rescheduling. We recognise that pilgrims may face financial implications through no fault of their own, and urge operators to handle such cases with care, fairness and understanding.
Advice for Singaporeans currently in Saudi Arabia
For Singaporeans already in Saudi Arabia, we understand that these developments may be worrying, especially for those travelling with elderly family members or children. Please remain calm and follow the advice of local authorities and MFA. Please stay in contact with your travel operators and airlines. Singapore's consular assistance channels remain available to those who need help.
To facilitate timely assistance where necessary, Singaporeans in the Kingdom, as well as those who must travel there, are strongly encouraged to eRegister with MFA at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg/ (opens in new tab). Those requiring consular assistance may contact the Singapore Embassy in Riyadh, the Singapore Consulate-General in Jeddah, or MFA's 24-hour Duty Office at +65 6379 8800 / 8855.
MUIS will continue to monitor developments closely and coordinate with relevant government agencies to provide updates where necessary. We appreciate the community's patience and understanding, and encourage pilgrims and their families to remain guided by official advisories as the situation evolves.
We share the hopes of our pilgrims and their families that safety in the region will improve soon. We pray for their safety and well-being, and that they will be able to fulfil their intention to perform Umrah safely and with peace of mind when circumstances permit.
