The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) will provide a $4.3 million Ramadan support package that will benefit over 10,500 recipients during the holy month. The announcement was made by Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim during a buka puasa session with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Al-Mawaddah Mosque. The gathering brought together around 100 Muslims comprising of community leaders, Zakat beneficiaries and guests from Homes.
Comprehensive support package
The Ramadan support comprises $3.5 million from Zakat funds and $800,000 from fidyah contributions. Recipients include monthly Zakat beneficiaries, Muslim residents from selected welfare homes, ComCare Long-Term Assistance recipients, households referred by Family Service Centres, and Muslim tertiary students from low-income families.
“Zakat supports daily living needs, education, healthcare, and pathways to selfreliance. At its heart, it reflects our collective duty as a community to uplift one another,” said Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Assoc Prof Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, who was present at the session.
Expanded community reach
MUIS has significantly expanded community access through Zakat Social Development@Mosques (ZakatSD@Mosques) initiative, which has grown from six mosques in 2023 to over 60 mosques (see Annex A) today. The programme provides walk-in service through Mosque Zakat Officers, who assess individuals’ or families’ needs and connect them to appropriate support. This includes immediate cash assistance and grocery vouchers. In 2025, over 1,100 clients received such assistance, with approximately 600 referred to monthly support programmes.
Ongoing commitment
Under the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA), MUIS manages Zakat collection and distribution, providing monthly support to over 6,500 households annually. It also collaborates with national agencies and mosques to ensure Zakat assistance complements existing government programmes and connects beneficiaries to relevant support networks. Last year, MUIS disbursed a record $4.3 million in year-end Zakat distribution, which supported over 6,000 families, including more than 8,000 children with their educational needs. These year-end disbursements, provided since 2012, help families manage bills, arrears, and school preparation costs.
