MUIS begins disbursing $4.3 million Ramadan support package to over 10,500 beneficiaries
14 March 2026
Payouts started on 3 March with expanded support including first-time assistance for Madrasah students and religious educators
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has started disbursing its $4.3 million Ramadan support package announced on 20 February 2026, benefitting over 10,500 beneficiaries during the holy month. The comprehensive package comprises $3.5 million from Zakat funds and $800,000 from Fidyah contributions.
Tailored support for community
The Ramadan support package provides assistance tailored to different community needs across monthly Zakat beneficiaries, Muslim residents from selected welfare homes, ComCare Long-Term Assistance recipients, households referred by Family Service Centres, and Muslim tertiary students from low-income families.
Over 5,000 families who are monthly Zakat beneficiaries will receive support ranging from $150 to $2,100 based on household size. About 1,400 students from Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Polytechnics and, for the first time, full-time pre-university Madrasah students, will receive $300 each to help with school-related expenses during Ramadan and Syawal. About 2,600 Muslim residents of selected welfare homes, ComCare Long-Term Assistance recipients, households referred by Family Service Centres, and religious educators from underprivileged families will also receive at least $150. Additionally, MUIS will cover Fitrah payments for about 1,500 seniors in welfare homes. Payouts began on 3 March 2026, with eligible recipients notified by post.
SalamSG Gives: Community spirit in action
Beyond financial assistance, SalamSG Gives encompasses a variety of Ramadan initiatives, spanning coordinated efforts at mosques, districts, and MUIS. Since early February, mosques including Masjid Darul Makmur, Masjid Al-Iman, Masjid Mujahidin, Masjid Jamae Chulia, Masjid Kg Delta and Masjid Al-Abdul Razak have organised SalamSG Gives events that celebrate our community's enduring spirit of giving and volunteerism.
MUIS staff have also personally delivered Raya cookie hampers to Zakat beneficiaries, ComCare Long-Term Assistance recipients, and residents from different welfare homes and institutions. To further enliven the spirit of sharing, MUIS has been providing iftar meals to selected welfare homes during this blessed month. These two initiatives had benefitted over 1,100 households.
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for the community's unwavering support in upholding the spirit of Zakat and charitable giving. “The generosity shown by our Muslim community through Zakat contributions reflects the true spirit of Islamic values - caring for one another and ensuring no one is left behind.”
He added, “As we observe this blessed month of Ramadan, I encourage all of us to continue this spirit of giving, whether through Zakat, Fidyah, or voluntary contributions. Your generosity uplifts individuals and families, while strengthening the institutions that serve our community. Every act of charity, no matter how small, deepens the bonds within our community and brings us closer to the values of compassion and social responsibility that Islam teaches us.”
