MUIS disburses $4.3 million year-end zakat assistance to support over 6,000 households
22 December 2025
About $1.3 million set aside for 8,600 children’s school needs
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has disbursed a total of $4.3 million in a special Year-End Disbursement (YED) assistance payout to more than 6,000 low-income households. This additional payout, valued at about $300 per household, is provided on top of the regular monthly Zakat financial assistance. this additional payout ensures continued support for vulnerable families during the year-end period.
Additional support for year-end expenses
The YED aims to ease financial pressures on low-income households, helping them manage critical year-end expenses such as accumulated bills, outstanding payments, and loans. For families with school-going children, the disbursement also provides much-needed support to prepare for the upcoming school year. Since its introduction in 2012, this initiative has remained a key feature of MUIS's efforts to help Zakat beneficiaries manage financial stress during this period.
Continued educational support for children of zakat beneficiaries
MUIS continues to provide Reqab assistance at a standardised rate of $150 per child, underscoring its commitment to supporting the educational needs of Zakat beneficiaries' children. The Reqab scheme, part of MUIS's Zakat Financial Assistance programme, helps families meet school-related expenses such as uniforms, books, and essential supplies. Approximately $1.3 million of the total Zakat YED in 2025 has been allocated for this support, benefitting around 8,600 children aged 18 years and below. This ensures they can begin the new school year well-equipped without adding undue financial strain on their families.
With the new additional support, a family of five with three school-going children who receives Zakat Financial Assistance in 2025 will receive a total of $1,350 (See Annex A). Eligible Zakat beneficiaries have received their year-end zakat assistance from 12 December to end December 2025 by GIRO.
Supporting our community
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said, "The generosity of our Zakat contributors enables MUIS to provide timely and meaningful support to families in need. Beyond easing immediate financial pressures, this assistance helps ensure that our children are well-prepared for the new school year, giving them a strong start and peace of mind. By investing in their education, we are strengthening the foundations of our community and building resilience for the future. I encourage all eligible beneficiaries to make full use of this support, and I thank MUIS for their steadfast dedication in caring, uplifting and serving our community."
