MUIS disburses over $8 million in Wakaf income to strengthen the Muslim community

Local Wakaf disbursements rise 6.6%, supporting mosques, madrasahs, charities and community organisations.

  1. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) will disburse $8.48 million from the income of MUIS-administered Wakaf for the Financial Year 2025. The disbursements will benefit mosques, madrasahs, Muslim organisations, charities and other beneficiaries in Singapore and overseas, in accordance with the intentions of the respective Wakif (donors) as set out in each Wakaf deed.

  2. Of the total amount, $4.5 million will be distributed to beneficiaries in Singapore, a 6.6% increase from Financial Year 2024. A further $3.98 million will be disbursed to overseas beneficiaries in accordance with the respective Wakaf deeds (refer to Annex A [PDF, 211.77 KB] (opens in new tab) for details of MUIS-administered Wakaf disbursement).

  3. This year’s local disbursements will be distributed to 18 mosques, seven full-time and part-time madrasahs, and 30 Muslim organisations in Singapore. The funds will strengthen religious institutions, support Islamic education and enable programmes that benefit the wider community.

  4. Under the Administration of Muslim Law Act (AMLA), MUIS is responsible for ensuring that Wakaf assets are well managed so they can continue generating sustainable income for their intended beneficiaries. Every disbursement reflects the wishes of the respective Wakif and the ensuring purpose of their charitable endowment.

  5. The announcement was made at the Wakaf Disbursement Ceremony on Friday, 24 July 2026. The event held at Singapore Islamic Hub (SIH) was attended by about 70 invited guests and beneficiaries.

Supporting mosques and madrasahs

  1. Mosques will receive a total of $2.02 million, an increase of 18.4% from Financial Year 2024. The funds will support infrastructure development, community programmes, and sector capability enhancement initiatives across mosques in Singapore.

  2. Madrasahs will receive $780,000 this year to support Islamic education and nurture future religious teachers and community leaders, in line with the intentions of respective Wakif.

Supporting the wider community

  1. Muslim charitable organisations and Indian Muslim organisations will receive $710,000, a 16.1% increase from Financial Year 2024. The funds will support programmes for seniors, vulnerable families, rehabilitation efforts and social support initiatives.

  2. In addition, about $200,000 will be disbursed to support community burial needs, while $765,000 will be distributed to eligible family beneficiaries in accordance with the respective Wakaf deeds.

  3. Chief Executive of MUIS, Mr Kadir Maideen, said, “This year’s disbursements reflect the enduring impact of Wakaf and the generosity of our Wakif. Every dollar fulfils the wishes of a Wakif, supports those in need, and continues a legacy of giving that strengthens our mosques, madrasahs and the wider community. As the trustee of Wakaf, MUIS remains committed to safeguarding this amanah and ensuring these endowments continue to benefit future generations.”
