Official completion ceremony of Darul Makmur Mosque
15 November 2025
Darul Makmur Mosque celebrated the successful completion of its comprehensive upgrading programme today. This was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the mosque’s leadership, local community, and key partners. Witnessing the momentous occasion was Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs, Associate Professor Faishal Ibrahim, and representatives from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).
Heritage and community service
Since opening its doors in 1987, Darul Makmur Mosque has not only been a spiritual home for Muslim residents in Yishun but also played a key role in bringing communities of all faiths together through its services and programmes. Over the years, the mosque has established itself as a vital community hub, fostering interfaith understanding and social harmony across diverse communities over nearly four decades.
Seamless service continuity during upgrading
Throughout the two-year upgrading period, Darul Makmur Mosque maintained uninterrupted services by operating mosque administrative services and programme from Assyafaah Mosque, while North View Secondary School served as the temporary venue for Friday prayers, Tarawih, and Hari Raya celebrations.
Upgraded infrastructure and accessibility
Completed at a cost of $15 million, the upgraded mosque can now accommodate 4,000 worshippers, an increase from its previous capacity of 3,000. Other key infrastructural improvements include comprehensive barrier-free access with ramps and lift facilities, 11 fully equipped classrooms for religious education and community programmes, and advanced audio systems in the main prayer hall and reception area to support congregants with hearing devices.
Since gradually resuming operations on 7 June 2025, the mosque has welcomed over 200,000 congregants for congregational prayers. Weekly religious classes resumed in August 2025, followed by its Mosque Based Kindergarten in September 2025. Madrasah classes are also scheduled to resume in January 2026, serving up to 1,000 students.
Expanded community programmes
The upgraded facilities will also enable Darul Makmur Mosque to strengthen collaboration and service to the community. Residents can look forward to the following programmes:
The Santunan Emas programme will provide comprehensive support for more seniors and their caregivers staying in Yishun through religious motivational talks and active aging activities. Building on the successful pilot at Al-Muttaqin Mosque, this initiative operates in partnership with the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), National Healthcare Group (NHG), and local Active Ageing Centres (AACs) to foster intergenerational connections and community wellness.
The Youth Outreach and Development Programme will nurture emerging community leaders. In collaboration with the District North Mosques Youth Network and local partners, the programme will deliver leadership camps, volunteering projects, and community engagement activities designed to develop social responsibility, creativity, and teamwork amongst our youths.
