Singapore’s Mufti calls for deeper Quranic reflection beyond recitation at annual Tazkirah Nuzul Quran event
6 March 2026
Mufti Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir described Ramadan as a spiritual training opportunity that should cultivate lasting values of compassion, discipline and gratitude extending beyond the holy month.
Over 1,000 congregants attended the annual Tazkirah Nuzul Quran event at Darul Ghufran Mosque on Friday, 6 March 2026, where Singapore’s Mufti, Dr Nazirudin Mohd Nasir, delivered meaningful messages about strengthening one’s relationship with the Quran. The event also saw attendance from Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.
Speaking to the congregants, Dr Nazirudin reminded the community that Ramadan marks the revelation of the Quran and presents an opportunity to renew their commitment to divine guidance. In his sharing, he emphasised that mere recitation (tilawah) is insufficient - deeper understanding and reflection are essential for personal transformation.
Shaping values beyond Ramadan
The Mufti highlighted how Quranic teachings can help shape character and daily actions, with values of compassion (Rahmah) and courtesy becoming visible in everyday interactions. He described Ramadan as a spiritual training opportunity that cultivates discipline, patience and gratitude – qualities that must extend beyond the holy month.
Dr Nazirudin also called upon the community to appreciate the peace and security in Singapore, remembering those facing trials in other parts of the world. He encouraged Muslims to use this sacred time to pray for the restoration of peace.
Special prayer for those affected in Mid-East tensions
During the event, Deputy Mufti Dr Izal Mustafa Kamar led a special prayer seeking divine peace for all humanity. Special supplications were made for those performing the umrah pilgrimage and students pursuing their education in the Middle East.
