Youth participants discover Singapore's wakaf heritage through Chinatown trail
29 October 2026
Heritage trail brings 160 students and parents together to explore the legacy of giving and imagine their contributions to future generations
About 160 madrasah students and parents explored Singapore’s Indian Muslim heritage through Roots & Routes: The Wakaf Jamae Heritage Trail, held on 25 October across Chinatown and Telok Ayer.
Organised by Warees Investments, with support support from Masjid Jamae (Chulia), Masjid Al-Abrar and Nagore Dargah Indian Muslim Heritage Centre, the trail took participants through six heritage and wakaf sites. Through guided activities, participants learnt about the contributions of early Indian Muslim pioneers and how wakaf endowments continue to support religious and community institutions today.
The trail was launched by Warees Board Director and Indian Muslim community leader, Dr Razak Chanbasha, BBM, at the Masjid Jamae (Chulia) Community Plaza. Participants explored historical landmarks, including Masjid Jamae (Chulia) and Masjid Al-Abrar, as well as the newly opened Jamae Chulia Heritage development that opened on 24 October 2026.
As part of the experience, students were invited to imagine a “wakaf for Singapore in 2050” through their My Heritage, My Legacy explorer booklet. Their ideas, including a Green Eco-Madrasah and a Youth Tech Lab, reflected how the spirit of giving can inspire future generations to contribute to society.
