Purity of the Heart in Islam

  • “Be aware! Surely, in the body there is a small piece of flesh; if it is good, the whole body is good, and if it is corrupted, the whole body is corrupted, and that is surely the heart.” [Hadith reported by Imam Al-al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim].
  • It is clear from this hadith that the purity of the heart is the main driving factor for taqwa to bloom and grow in one’s heart. Just like a tree, its flowers will not bloom if the soil in which its roots grow is left dry. The same applies to one’s taqwa; it will not grow if it is planted in a heart that is darkened by bad deeds and deprived of religious knowledge.
  • Such is the status of those with noble akhlak that comes from a heart that is clean and pure. Allah s.w.t.  will grant him not only Paradise, but the Paradise close to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Jemaah, let us hence strive to cleanse our hearts, protect and purify it from any sins and ill-feelings. May Allah s.w.t. bless us with the strength to continuously cleanse our hearts from any sorts of bad deeds.
