The Well-Being of the Community - Drug Abuse is Haram

  • The use of any drugs is haram (forbidden) in Islam. This is because it goes against the principle of safeguarding one’s life, intellect, and health as strongly emphasised in Islam. This is aligned with the hadith of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w: "Do not cause harm and return harm." [Hadith reported by Imam Ahmad].
  • In the recent media reports, it is revealed that between 2010 and 2016, there was a 23 percent jump in the number of drug offenders in our community. What concerns us even more, a large portion of these are young offenders. This is extremely disturbing as these young people are the future of the community. They are the inheritors of our religion and our race.
  • We cannot afford to confine ourselves into our own spaces and choose to be passive about the problem. This is a problem that requires cooperation from all groups, at all levels in order for us to successfully tackle the issue.
