A Prosperous Community - Empowering Teenagers

  • Our teenage years are times when we feel highly-motivated and encouraged; in fact, this could be the period when one’s self-motivation is at the peak. The desire to undertake new challenges and undergo new experiences often presents itself during one’s teenage years. Studies by psychologists have found that the teenage period is when an individual will start being more socially independent.
  • Islam does not deny this expression (and perhaps at times an outburst) of feelings, and in fact, Islam spells out guidelines for teenagers in managing their emotion and desires.
  • Several lessons in shaping the teenage years, as taught in Islam, can be learned from the story of Luqman al-Hakim and his son. The advice given to his son is appropriate for teenagers and serves as model for us to follow.
